Updates on recent meetings
Wednesday 19th February 2025.
The February meeting was a talk by James Pryce Tractors of Tiverton. Andy Pryce, son of James Pryce, who now runs the company gave us very in-depth talk about the business. His father started the company in Ireland in 1976. The firm sells mainly Case – International tractors having moved over to England.
A very good turnout of members this month, with lots of very interesting questions being asked and responded to.
Wednesday 19th March 2025.
This month’s meeting was a talk by Tom Lee, from Tom Engineering, Dowrich Farm, Crediton. We heard how he started the business working from the family farm.
From design to fabrication to installation. Anything from gates to bespoke staircases. Tom is well known to lots of our members, so it made a very interesting and lighthearted evening. The hall was packed with a very good turnout of members.
Wednesday 16th April 2025.
We started the meeting with some sad news, Norman Lock passed away recently. He had been a club member for many years, and served in various positions on the committee from 1988 to 2018. Keith said a few words about Norman before we started the meeting.
This month’s meeting was a talk by Angus Cottey, chairman of The Mid Devon Show. He was born in Exmouth in 1964, served in the police force and on retirement bought a farm at Winkleigh.
In 2016 he became the chairman of the Mid Devon Show. He gave us a very interesting talk, with a few funny stories of events over the years. In 1973 the show became a Ltd Company. The cost to put on the show in 1994 was about £16,000; this year it will cost more than 10 times that. This years show will be on 26th July.
Wednesday 21st May 2025.
This month’s meeting was a site visit to view the Dicker Family’s collection of steam traction engines. Lots of club members and guests enjoyed a lovely evening. Nick Dicker and his son gave us a demonstration of how to pull a traction engine if it was stuck using another traction engine and winch.
One engine is under restoration so members were interested in seeing that, and hearing what’s involved in this project.
During the evening Keith said a few words about Lily Lock, Norman’s wife who sadly passed away, a few weeks after Norman. We had a minutes silence to remember them at the end of the evening.
