Morchard Road, 7th October

The Annual Gas-Up took place as usual at Morchard Road on 7th October courtesy of Gordon & Josie Bruce

It was good to see members past and present come to see what turned out to be an unexpected attraction – 3 traction engines working  together.

The full size engine, made by Burrell of Thetford, is owned by Gordon Bruce & family and appears at various events in the South West.

The middle engine, a replica based on a Burrell, is ‘Thomas‘ is owned by Audrey Sanders, maintained by Gordon. Audrey and her late husband were well known figures

in the local vintage machinery community and despite Audreys great age, she came out to see her engine on this occasion. It was a treat to see her catching up with old friends.

The smallest engine has been built by retired vet Jonathan Wood. This replica is also based on the aforementioned Burrell, has been a work in progress for the last few years, a ‘labour of love’.

It is believed this was it’s first time out. All three lovingly tended, their polished brass glowing in the sunshine.

A short road run also took place, drivers returning to enjoy tea and hot pasties as usual. A draw also took place.
